                FAQ’s (Frequently asked questions)

Does Bay Distributors have a minimum parts order amount?

No we don’t, so don’t tell your customer that fact.  We decided a long time ago that if all you need is a $.50 gasket to finish a job,

then we will ship it to you.  We also sell all parts as individual items and we do not force you to by a prepackaged bundle of 10 items to get

the one item that you need.

Is there anywhere on the Internet that I can find the newest parts listings?    Poulan/Weedeater has posted all their current and

unpublished IPLs (and owners manuals) for handheld and wheeled products on their web site.  Go to www.poulan.com and click on “download

manuals” and a model number search engine will open.  Type in at least the first 3 digits of the model # and click search.  A new page will open

that will list the owner’s manual and parts manual for the different model and type #s of your search.  They are in a .pdf (Adobe Reader) format

that you can either print out or save to your hard drive for future reference.

There will be no new fiche updates this year.  Both the handheld and the wheeled product divisions are currently in the process of

negotiating with several vendors on instating an online look up site.  All dealers will be advised when the matter is resolved.  For your

information though, I have ran across 2 commercial sites that have most of the wheeled and handheld products parts diagrams online (as well

as many other manufacturers).  They are http://www.jackssmallengines.com/ and http://www.ordertree.com/   If you do not have internet

access, then give us a call at 1-800-461-9500 and we will either look up the part #s for you or fax you the IPL.

Does Poulan have their parts diagrams on CD-ROM?

No, Poulan doesn’t, but there are several companies that can supply the service:

·         PartSmart This is probably the best and easiest to use and they cover the most manufacturers, but it is expensive.

Go to http://www.arinet.com or phone 1-800-755-6040

·         E-Fiche  This software is fairly reasonably priced ($100.00 US for combined Handheld and wheeled product)and it is fairly easy to learn,

Go to http://www.e-fiche.com/ or call 1-800-347-7366

·         IBT Corp This Company makes the microfiche for Poulan (handheld product only) and has made a CD-ROM that once you learn how to use

it, the program is easy to navigate.  The price is $25.00 US.  Call 1-800-259-2661 or email to Sales@IBTCorp.net

Where do I find a model’s TYPE NUMBER or I ordered in parts that I looked up and they do not match the original parts?

Poulan Weedeater is constantly upgrading their products, and quite often they will do a type change on a model.  On some models they will have

up to 6 or more different type #s.  The type # of a particular model is the last digit of the serial #.   (Serial # 03211D999999-5 would be a

Type 5).  You must use the new microfiche index card (dated May 2003) to locate where the newest parts diagrams for the particular model is

located.  You cannot simply choose one of the green cards to look up a trimmer model as the newest version of the illustrated parts list (IPL) may

be on one of the six purple heading addendum cards (dated May 2003).

Why can’t I buy a repair kit for the carburetor on a 2004/2005 model through Poulan/Weedeater? This policy is being instated simply due to

economics.  If you have a carburetor problem on a unit that is still under warranty and cleaning will not cure the problem, then you will have to

replace the carburetor.  If the unit is out of warranty and it needs a carb overhaul, the repair kits will have to be purchased through your Walbro

or Zama Distributor.

Why can’t I buy a brake band for a chain brake?

The factory decided several years ago that they would provide the complete chain brake assembly at a reduced price due to the fact that this is a

safety item.  In this way there are no liability problems for incorrectly assembled brakes.  The other point that comes up is that by the time the

dealer puts in the brake parts, the parts and labour work out to approximately the same cost as the brake assembly.

Why is there no part # for chainsaw decals?

Poulan has quit producing decals as a service part as they have a very limited shelf life. I find that most decals can be removed and reused by

heating up the backside of the part that the decal is attached to with a hot air gun.  Once it has heated up sufficiently to soften the adhesive,

take an exacto-knife and starting at one corner slowly peel it off the old decal and reapply it to the new part.  If the decal is destroyed or missing,

we can get replacement decals from Poulan’s service department, but it usually takes 3 to 4 weeks for them to arrive.
